Mike Hartman, our intrepid first South African graduate of the Group’s ‘You Too Can Fly’ program, begins advanced training at Johannesburg’s Grand Central Airport.

Managing Director of Group SAP S/4 specialist G3G | Global SAP Partner for High-Growth Markets Africa, Mike recently began night flight training to kick off his advanced training regime, the objective being to earn an Instrument Rating in due course. He earned his Private Pilot license last December. In part flowing from Mike’s training, the Group’s ‘You Too Can Fly’ program was the subject of a recent writeup by the South African chapter of the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association, a leading advocacy body for General Aviation, worldwide.

Mike says that he is genuinely captivated by the beauty of night flight. The air is typically smooth, the radio frequency quieter, and the visuals breathtaking. That said, for myriad reasons night flight represents a step up in risk compared with daytime flight. Mike feels that he is learning valuable new lessons in better managing risk, transferable to the workplace.

This phase of the advanced training will hopefully be completed within the next month to six weeks, depending upon weather conditions.
